New CT Scanner Saving Lives

COLUMBIA - A CT scan is a common means for doctors to find out what's going on with a patient.

But now there's a newer, faster and easier way to get that potentially life-saving information.

No one saw it beforehand, not even his cardiologist, but a new piece of equipment, one that few medical offices in this country have, caught it and it led to a serious intervention with little time to spare.

"I was a ticking time bomb. I was asymptomatic. This scan showed damage that the only other way it would have been found otherwise was me having a massive heart attack and dying," CT Scan patient Steve Regier said.

He can smile and laugh about it now, but it was about as close to a life and death situation as anyone could come last year.

He volunteered to get a CT angiogram from Advanced Radiology of Columbia to test its new 128 slice CT scanner. This is a cutting edge piece of equipment that one diagnostic radiologist says represents some big advances. Read More on KOMU.com
